Is a 1-1 shell-and-tube heat exchanger
the same as a double-pipe heat exchanger? Do they have the same heat-exchanger
correction factor, FT?
Both the 1-1 shell-and-tube heat exchanger and the double-pipe heat
exchanger have the same heat-exchanger correction factor, FT=
1. This is because in both cases the hot side and the cold side encounter
each other only in one sense, either co-currently or counter-currently.
In the 1-2 shell-and-tube heat exchanger, the shell side encounters part
of the tube-side in a co-current manner, and part of it in a counter-current
manner. This changes the correction factor. The correction
factors for 1-2 and 2-4 shell-and-tube heat exchangers are given in Geankoplis
on page 270.
