CM3215 Fundamentals of Transport Lab

Sample Report:  Technical Memo Style

In order to judge the quality of a report, you must know what the objectives were when the report was requested.  Therefore, please take a look at this assignment memo first, and then look at the report and compare.  Ask yourself, does the report address the objectives?  Are the objectives clearly expressed in the Introduction?  Do we find out in the conclusions how the objectives were met?  These are the important questions when assessing a report.

Good afternoon Dr. Morrison,

As we discussed today, I would like your help with some laboratory work for CM3215 Fundamentals of Chemical Engineering Lab.

Please investigate the reliability and reproducibility of the 8 Bourdon gauge pairs that are associated with each of the 8 lab stations in 19-103 (CM3215 lab).   Please present your results in terms of Fanning friction factor versus Reynolds number. I would like you to explore the widest range of Reynolds number possible for the 1/4" pipe only (no need to do 3/8" or 1/2").  If you have any problems or discover any inaccuracies in the lab setup, please let me know.

I look forward to seeing how these data turn out.  If you need any assistance from me, please feel free to contact me.

best wishes,
Dr. Davis Hubbard
