April 4, 2002

Present: Karen Hubbard, George Love, Kim Hoagland, Faith Morrison, Peck Cho, June Hawthorne, Amy Hughes, Udaya Kalluri, Phyllis Johnson, Paul Munsterman

Absent: Terry Reynolds, Dee Vincent, Gail Mroz, Dana Richter

Karen Hubbard called the meeting to order at 4 pm; action items are in bold.

The minutes of the March 14, 2002 meeting were reviewed and approved

The treasurer's report dated April 1, 2002 was reviewed and approved. Kim Hoagland distributed the treasurer's report that Terry Reynolds created.

Book Sale

The book sale is next week! Kim brought Book Sale posters to the meeting and handed them out. Terry Reynolds made them. Paul has the table tents. All the book sale advertising has been completed.

Work Bee: Got a lot done, but not enough. Another work bee will be needed. Decided to have the work bee on Saturday, April 6, 2002 at 10 am. We will need bags, so everyone should bring bags to the sale if they can.

We discussed the day of sale setup. Faith will make signs to advertise the book cart in the library, etc. Discussed using the sandwich boards.

Open House

The open house reception will be held in the library on April 27, 2002 from noon - 4pm. June Hawthorne agreed to take care of getting the blankets and cards to the open house. Phyllis will order the food from the MUB.

We discussed what our future projects should be. Phyllis will ask the library staff for their ideas for projects that could be funded by the FVPL.

Phyllis told us that the architects for the library expansion will be back in mid April. Phyllis will send the web address of the library addition information to Faith. Faith will create a link to this information on the FVPL web page.

Request from Jack Stock

Faith received an email request from Jack Stock:

My name is Jack Stock and I work at Kettering University (Flint, formerly GMI) in the development office. Our University library is starting a friends group and we were admiring the work you folks have already done with the Van Pelt Library.

A question/favor to ask is whether you might allow us to essentially use the format you have incorporated on the "About the Friends of the Library" page? We would, of course, cite your organization while incorporating our own flavor to our page. Is that acceptable? Your

ability to allow us use of the format would be deeply appreciated.

We discussed Jack’s request and agreed that he can use our format.

The meeting adjourned at 4:53 pm. The next meeting will be May 2, 2002, 4-5:00pm in room 309 of the J. Robert Van Pelt Library.
