A. Winter Carnival Hot Chocolate-Library Event

Don Durfee reported on the FVPL Winter Carnival event.  We served over 300+ Hot Chocolates and many cookies and cakes as well. We collected a total of $112.67 in the donation can and we sold $171.39 in books (includes sales tax) for a total of $284.06.  We didn’t run out of cookies until about 30 minutes before the end.

Children's books again flew off the sale table this year.  No blankets or packs of note cards were sold.   A small number of single note cards were sold.

B.  2008 Book Sale April 3rd and 4th

Eloise reviewed the book sale spreadsheet items, and we made assignments for all of the tasks.  We will have two more sorting and pricing work bees before the sale.  The work bees are scheduled for 3-5 pm on Thursday, March 13, 2008 and 3-5 pm on Thursday, March 27, 2008.

C.  Book Cart Update

Karen reported that the book cart is doing fine.

D.  Econo Slips

Mary had emailed the FVPL list earlier this week with the total in Econo Receipts collected.  $16,524.09 worth of receipts have been collected from August, 2007 through March 6, 2008.

E.   Afghan Committee Report

      No report.

F.   Art Committee Report

Patricia updated us on art committee discussions.  Patricia moved that the FVPL purchase a work titled “Home in the Hills” created by MTU faculty member Jennifer Daryl Slack for the amount of $1,000.  The motion was seconded by Faith.  The motion passed.

Patricia informed us that Phyllis Fredendall, Fiber/Fashion Design faculty at Finlandia, would like to attend the FVPL April 24, 2008 meeting to discuss her proposal for a fiber art piece for a large wall in the library.

G.  March Newsletter

Faith will be working on the FVPL newsletter, and plans to mail them on March 24, 2008.  Eloise requested 20 copies of the newsletter for Friday of the book sale.

H.  New Projects

We discussed the status of trying to obtain some of the book collections we have approved in the past.  Phyllis will ask Ellen to gather information about the Marquette Mining Journal available on microfilm.
