Co-Chairman Faith Morrison called the meeting to order at 4:08
pm.
The minutes
of the February 4, 2008 meeting were reviewed and approved.
Terry Reynolds handed out the Treasurers report. The FVPL
had $16,569.02 as of March 5, 2008.
The
Treasurer’s report was approved.
A.
Winter Carnival Hot Chocolate-Library Event
Don Durfee reported on
the FVPL Winter Carnival event. We served
over 300+ Hot Chocolates and many cookies and cakes as well. We
collected a total of $112.67 in the donation can and we sold $171.39 in
books (includes sales tax) for a total of $284.06. We
didn’t run out of cookies until about 30 minutes before the end.
Children's books again flew off the sale table this year.
No blankets or packs of note cards were sold.
A small number of single note cards were sold.
B. 2008 Book Sale April 3rd and 4th
Eloise reviewed the
book sale spreadsheet items, and we made assignments for all of the
tasks. We will have two more sorting and
pricing work bees before the sale. The
work bees are scheduled for 3-5 pm on Thursday, March 13, 2008 and 3-5
pm on Thursday, March 27, 2008.
C. Book Cart Update
Karen
reported that the book cart is doing fine.
D. Econo Slips
Mary had emailed the
FVPL list earlier this week with the total in Econo Receipts collected. $16,524.09 worth of receipts have been
collected from August, 2007 through March 6, 2008.
E. Afghan Committee Report
No report.
F. Art Committee Report
Patricia updated us on
art committee discussions. Patricia moved
that the FVPL purchase a work titled “Home in the Hills” created by MTU
faculty member Jennifer Daryl Slack for the amount of $1,000. The motion was seconded by Faith.
The motion passed.
Patricia informed us
that Phyllis Fredendall, Fiber/Fashion Design faculty at Finlandia,
would like to attend the FVPL April 24, 2008 meeting to discuss her
proposal for a fiber art piece for a large wall in the library.
G. March Newsletter
Faith will be working
on the FVPL newsletter, and plans to mail them on March 24, 2008. Eloise requested 20 copies of the newsletter
for Friday of the book sale.
H. New Projects
We discussed the
status of trying to obtain some of the book collections we have
approved in the past. Phyllis will ask
Ellen to gather information about the Marquette Mining Journal
available on microfilm.
I. Retirement party
Phyllis
Johnson, MTU Librarian and FVPL board member, is retiring from MTU this
year.
On
Thursday, May 22, 2008 from 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm, the Library will have an
ice cream social in the Library Reading Room for all to attend.
On
Wednesday, May 28 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm, there will be a luncheon at
the North Shore Restaurant for Library staff only. The Library will be
closed for that time.
The
