Terry Reynolds ran today’s meeting.
The
minutes of the
Terry Reynolds did not have a hand-out of the Treasurer’s report because he could not get information about our Tech Fund account. Terry reported that our total is a “tad” over $15,000, which is the most it has been in a while. Terry told us that the past month’s book cart sales seem to be reaching a volume similar to monthly volumes we’ve had in past years. The Treasurer’s report was approved.

The minutes from the
B. Construction
update
Phyllis Johnson gave us an update on the library construction and remodel project. The library dedication may occur in May, 2005.
C. 2005
Book Sale
We discussed when we
should hold the 2005
book sale. We decided that April 5 &
6, 2005, a Tuesday/Wednesday would be a good time to hold the sale. We would like to reserve MUB Ballroom A for
the sale, as the Ballroom B space that we had last year was too small. Phyllis Johnson will find out if we can
reserve MUB Ballroom A from
D. Econo
Receipts
Mary gave us an update on Econo receipts. Faith will submit information to appear in Tech Topics about the collection of Econo receipts to support the FVPL.
E. Wireless
Service in the Library
Phyllis Johnson told us about what she has learned about providing wireless access in the library. She met with Jarrod Karau and Shane Godmere. Wireless connections will cost $25 a month per connection. 20 connections may be a good number for the library, and would cost $6,000 a year. It would be nice to have about 6 laptops that can be checked out by library patrons. We discussed the FVPL library financially supporting some of this initiative, but we made no decision at this meeting.
F. FVPL
Blankets
We
discussed moving forward with a
new blanket design. It would be great if
we could have new blankets by the time of the library dedication in
May, 2005. We attempted to form a small
committee to
work on the new design, but this action failed because board members
will not
have time to devote to the project over the next several months. We decided to hold a December FVPL meeting to
only discuss the new blanket design.
Please plan on attending this meeting on
We talked about black and yellow for the blanket or gray and yellow, with perhaps some beige as well. We likely will want to stay with 2 colors, because a 3 color blanket will cost more. We discussed what should go on the blanket, such as the new library building and the newer buildings on campus, instead of pictures of buildings which no longer exist. Faith posited the idea of some type of aerial view of the campus with the buildings we want to highlight sized larger than actual and perhaps in a stylized instead of a realistic drawing. Faith suggested that we could ask an MTU Alumnus who has worked for Marvel Comics to produce a design for us.
We can collect photos of the images we would like on the blanket and decide on what arrangement we want them in. The blanket artist who works with the blanket company will draw the design for us and then submit it for our approval before blankets are made. Terry said that the blanket designer has turned out a design for us in about a month’s time in the past.
We have the current blanket in stock now, but we want to ensure that folks will be able to get one for holiday purchases. Faith moved, and Mary seconded a motion to allow the FVPL Treasurer to order more blankets if the need arises without first getting board approval. The motion passed.
