minutes of the October 6, 2005 meeting were reviewed and
approved. The minutes of the October 20, 2005 annual meeting were
reviewed and
approved.
Mary
Marchaterre handed out the Treasurer’s report prepared
by Terry Reynolds which showed that the FVPL had $14,363.00 as of
November 1,
2005. The Treasurer’s report was
approved.
Jack
Jobst gave us a presentation on the new Portage Lake
District Library and the capital campaign they have going to furnish
the new
library.
A. FVPL Annual Meeting
We
discussed the October FVPL Annual
meeting.
B.
Mary
Marchaterre will email us the latest update on the collection of
Econo
receipts.
C. Library Book Drop for M&M
building and
Drive-Up Book Drop
M&M
building: We
discussed the request for a drop box for library books in the M&M
building. Phyllis Johnson said that the
library staff
supports having a drop box in the M&M building, and that the
library will
pay for one.
Drive-Up Book Drop:
Don Durfee shared the proposal he had created about getting a drive-up
drop
box. Don listed three options:
1. One freestanding
outdoor book return for library books
only.
2. Two separate
freestanding outdoor book returns – one for
library books and one for donated books.
3. One freestanding
outdoor book return for both library and
donated books.
We
discussed the possible locations, advantages & disadvantages,
and costs of each option. We did not
develop a recommendation to purchase any outdoor drop boxes. The issue needs to be discussed with more of
the board members first.
Book Donation
Drop-Off: We need to have a more convenient way for people to drop
off
books they are donating to the FVPL book sale.
Phyllis Johnson said that a box can be placed in the library
front
vestibule for book donations. This box
would not be a box that is a secure library book drop box, but an open
box of
some type to make it convenient for people to drop off a few books. Library staff would be able to collect the
books from this box and take them to FVPL book storage each day. Donations of larger quantities of books can
be dropped off at the loading dock. We
discussed how we could advertise and implement drop offs of donations
at the
loading dock.
D. Laptops
The laptops purchased
by the friends
for use in the library are now available to be checked out by library
patrons! None have been checked out yet. Phyllis told us that there are table tents in
the library to inform patrons of the laptop checkout option. We volunteered Terry Reynolds
to check one out to bring to the next FVPL board
meeting so that we can see how it works.
E. Book Storage
Sue DesRocher told us
that the
shelving units are in the FVPL book storage area, but they have not
been
assembled yet. Sue discussed how the
book storage and processing can be done in the new storage area. After we have books priced and boxed for the
sale, they can be stored in another room in the library, which should
give us
ample room for storing, sorting, and pricing books.
Sue will send us an email when the shelving
is ready. When it is ready, we will
schedule a work bee.
F. Book Cart
We discussed the book
cart. Dee Vincent told us that Karen
Hubbard has agreed to keep the book cart stocked.
G. Other Business
Don Durfee told us that
apparently
First Year Programs has donated some boxes of the books Frankenstein
and Feed
to the FVPL, although none of us have seen them. Joan
Pastore told Don that the English as a
Second Language Program is interested in using these books and that we
should
send the books to them once we find them.
The meeting adjourned
at 5:03 pm.
The
next meeting will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2005,
4-5:00 pm, in the library.
