Board Meeting
Friends of the Van Pelt Library
Thursday, September 05, 2002
Present: Dee Vincent, Karen Hubbard, Amy Hughes, Dana Richter, Faith Morrison, Phyllis Johnson
Absent: Terry Reynolds, Gail Mroz, Udaya Kalluri, Peck Cho, June Hawthorne, George Love, Kim Hoagland
Dee Vincent called the meeting to order at 4 pm. We did not have a quorum, so no decisions were finalized.
The minutes of the May 2, 2002 meeting were reviewed.
We discussed the date for the annual meeting perhaps late October, 2002.
Dee told us that she had received resignations from the FVPL board from Kim Hoagland and Udaya Kalluri. Udaya is willing to collect and submit the Econo receipts for us this year.
Paul Munsterman is no longer a student here, and therefore is no longer a representative on the board.
The Campus Wide Open house will be on Saturday, October 19, 2002 from noon until 4 pm. The library will again be involved with this program. We may sell FVPL afghans and notecards at the library open house.
We reviewed the treasurer's report dated September 3, 2002, and the discussion items on the memo from Terry Reynolds. Terry will be on Sabbatical Spring Semester 2003, so we will need a treasurer. Perhaps Gail Mroz would be willing to take this role. We discussed how some of the other tasks which Terry has been performing could be divvied up. Perhaps a new board member could act as a "sales agent" for afghans and note cards. We will ask Tau Beta Pi and see if they will commit to stocking the book cart in the library. We discussed the book sale and what improvements we could make to it. We have LOTS of books left from the Spring 2002 sale. Faith Morrison came up with a brilliant idea for how we could handle them:
We discussed elections we need more board members. Dee suggested that each current board member ask at least one person to consider joining our board.
We would like to send a newsletter out before the annual meeting. Faith will create the newsletter and would like board members to send her their articles/information for the newsletter.
