Dee Vincent called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm. Brian Geiger is a new FVPL student representative from USG.
The minutes of the May 5, 2005 meeting were reviewed and approved.
Terry Reynolds handed out the Treasurer’s report which showed that the FVPL had $13,480.97 as of September 1, 2005.
A. Laptops
& Book Storage
Sue DesRocher gave us an update on the wireless laptops. She asked us what we wanted students to use them for. We believe that the students should tell us what types of software they need on the laptops. The library will request feedback from the students who use the laptops. Sue told us that we will have storage space and shelving for the FVPL books on the ground floor in the library. Circulation will accept book donations for the FVPL. We don’t yet know whether or not we will have a book drop box similar to the one we had before the library remodel.
B.
Purchase of a platform truck (flat bed cart)
Terry Reynolds shared some information with us that he had obtained on flat bed carts. We can purchase one for about $110. We discussed purchasing a cart, and decided that we would not purchase one this year. We will try to borrow one this year and see how that works out for us.
C. Annual FVPL Meeting
We decided to hold the annual FVPL meeting on Thursday, October 20, 2005 at 4:30 – 5:30 pm in the library. We will ask Phyllis Johnson where we can hold the meeting in the library. We decided not to host a speaker at the annual meeting. The non-board member turn-out at annual meetings has been very low, so we will have a low-key annual meeting this year.
D. FVPL Newsletter
We decided to issue a fall newsletter to inform friends of the library about the annual meeting and other happenings. We will need to send out the newsletter before our next regular meeting, so newsletter items need to be submitted to Amy Hughes (alhughes@mtu.edu) by September 27, 2005. Terry Reynolds will provide articles on the book sale and book cart sales. Dee Vincent will ask Erik Nordberg to provide us with an article on the travel grants, Mary Marchaterre will write an article on Econo Foods receipts, we will ask Phyllis to provide us with articles on the library construction status and the wireless laptops. Someone will write an article on making donations of books for the FVPL book sale. We won’t request book donations until January in the online Tech Today – we would like to get our new storage space set up first.
E.
Econo Foods receipts
Mary Marchaterre will write an article for Tech Today requesting folks to send their Econo Foods receipts to the FVPL. Mary told us that we received a check for $580.93 from Econo Foods for the receipts we collected last year.
F.
Card and Blanket Storage
We discussed card and blanket storage. The cards and blankets will be stored in the new FVPL office in the library. When they are moved to this new location, they will be inventoried.
The meeting adjourned at 4:55 pm.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2005, 4-5:00 pm, in the library.
