Perfect Pie Crust

(Women’s Day Magazine, in the 1970s)

4 Cups flour

1 Tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt (I reduced this from 2 t)

1 3/4 Cup shortening

1 Tablespoon vinegar

1 large egg


Mix dry ingredients.  Cut in shortening.  Mix vinegar and egg; mix this into dry ingredients; add water sparingly to allow the dough to come together.  Separate into four balls and chill for 1/2 hour in the refrigerator.  Roll out as usual.  May be re-rolled.
