Gary E. Anderson

Mr. Gary E. Anderson

Mr. Gary E. Anderson, a native of Ishpeming, Michigan, earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Tech in 1967. While here, he served as President of the AIChE Student Chapter and was a member of Tau Beta Pi. He received an MBA in Finance from Central Michigan University in 1973. Upon graduation he joined Dow Corning Corporation where he held numerous positions within the Resins and Chemicals Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Fluids and Resins Business, and finally the Economic Evaluation and Business Control Division where he served as Manager. In 1979 he became Director of Manufacturing and Engineering for Europe and was promoted to Vice President, Dow Corning Europe in 1980. During a leave of absence he served as acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Commerce. Returning to Dow Corning in 1986, Mr. Anderson became Manager of the Fluids, Resins and Process Industries Business and was named Corporate Vice President. In 1989 he was named Group Vice President, in 1993 Executive Vice President, and in 1994 he was elected President of Dow Corning. He was named CEO in 1999, and elected Chairman in March 2001. In addition to his active professional career, Mr. Anderson was a member of the Conference Board Global Economic Advisory Panel, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and AIChE. He was a director of the American Chemistry Council, the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology, and the Chemical Specialties Manufacturers Association. He also served on the Chemical Bank board of directors, and as chairman of the Midland Community Center board of trustees. He is a member of the Michigan Technological University President’s Advisory Board and past president of the Michigan Tech Fund. In 1993 he received the Michigan Tech Board of Control Silver Medal and in 2003 an honorary doctorate for his distinguished contributions to the profession.
