All students admitted to the Graduate School are considered for these awards. In general, awards are made in March and April for the ensuing year. Graduate research assistantships are awarded to work on specific research contracts and grants. Both teaching and research awards can be for the academic year of three quarters or for the entire year. The awards include a stipend plus payment of tuition and fees. The current stipend is $4,548 per semester for master s degree students and $5,280 per semester for doctoral students. These amounts are for the 2006-07 academic year. Students receiving assistantships must be registered as graduate students and must enroll for a minimum of 9 (MS) and (PhD) credits per semester. Teaching assistantships in chemical engineering generally involve service as instructors in the Unit Operations Laboratory, or in introductory chemical engineering courses. In addition to financial aid, these teaching positions provide invaluable experience for students interested in academic careers. |
