The Department of Chemical Engineering at Michigan Tech
is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Ching-An Peng
as the first holder of the James and Lorna Mack Endowed Chair.
Dr. Peng comes to Michigan Tech from National Taiwan University.
His research interests include drug/gene delivery, tissue engineering,
nanomedicine, and biological transport. He earned a BS in Chemical
Engineering at National Taiwan University in 1985, an MS in
Chemical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame in 1990,
and a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan
in 1995.

Dr. Peng joins a department with research strengths in numerous
key areas: biochemical engineering; carbon technology; process
safety; polymers; process simulation; thermodynamics and
physical properties; environmental science; catalysis and reaction
engineering; mineral processing; iron and steel making;
and alternative energy.

Michigan Tech chemical engineering alumnus James A. Mack '59 and his wife, Lorna, donated $2 million to establish an endowed chair in cellular and molecular bioengineering. Mr. Mack recently retired as president and Chief Executive Officer of Cambex Corporation, a developer and marketer of specialty chemicals. His company has successfully combined biology with engineering -- especially in he rapidly emerging field of tissue engineering and cell therapy and the development of small molecule therapeutics.

James and Lorna Mack are dedicated to helping Michigan Tech achieve its vision to grow as a premier research university of international stature, delivering education, new knowledge, and innovation.
