James and Lorna Mack Chair in Bioengineering The Department of Chemical Engineering at Michigan Technological University is seeking highly qualified candidates for the newly created Jim and Lorna Mack Chair in Bioengineering. Biotechnology and bioengineering have been identified as a focal area for growth at Michigan Tech in both the College of Engineering and the University as a whole. Michigan Tech will be starting initiatives in bio-informatics and chemical-informatics in the near future to complement existing research strengths in biochemical and environmental engineering. Additionally, Michigan Tech is experiencing substantial growth in student interest and research in the Center for Biomedical Engineering. Significant opportunities for interdisciplinary research with regional universities are available through the recently announced National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center specializing in Wireless Integrated Microsystems. The Mack Chair holder will have the opportunity to provide a strategic direction for Michigan Tech’s growing research efforts in biotechnology and bioengineering and will play a substantial role in setting the university-wide agenda for research in bioengineering-related fields. Responsibilities of the Mack Chair will include establishing a nationally recognized research program in bioengineering at Michigan Tech and teaching undergraduate and graduate classes to support these research efforts.
