CAEL Computing

Click to above link for information about beinga partner in the Computer Aided Engineering Labs (CAEL) provides state-of-the-art computing facilities for undergraduate students. The CAEL is made up of the undergraduate computer labs in the Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering departments.

COMPUTING FACILITIES

	The Chemical Engineering department has more 120 computers of various sorts for student use. There are more than 55 different software packages available, as well as access to 2 terabytes of storage (shared with Mechanical Engineering) for user and group data. Data is backed up daily, and periodic backups are archived for up to 5 years. Photos at left: Lab in Basement of Chemical Engineering Building
	The Undergrad lab PC's are purchased every 3 years to maintain the fastest computing environment possible. There are also several large servers which handle data access, authentication and web services. Computing for Chemical Engineering is handled by West Engineering Computing Network, which has 6 full time staff members and numerous students who do everything from installing applications to major hardware upgrades. Front line lab support is handled by the CAEL Partners, an organization made up of student volunteers who support the Chemical and Mechanical Engineering labs.
