INDUSTRIAL RELATIONSHIPS

Michigan Tech and the Department of Chemical Engineering have very strong ties with industry. More than 25 percent of the research programs in the department are funded directly from industrial sources. The faculty and their research programs are sensitive and responsive to the needs of industry.

The major development efforts to establish the Process Simulation and Control Center and the undergraduate Unit Operation Laboratories have been accomplished with substantial technical and financial support from Dow Chemical, Dow Corning, 3M, Amoco, BASF, Honeywell, and UOPLLC.

The department is proud of this strong industrial component as it provides opportunities for graduate study that are relevant to society s needs. The Industrial Advisory Board of the department meets semiannually to consult on ideas and visions that will continue to keep our chemical engineering program in tune with the long-term needs of the chemical and materials processing industries.

International Relationships

Chemical engineering at Michigan Tech has a close working relationship with the chemical engineering department at the Universidad de Sonora, Mexico. Faculty and graduate student exchange and interaction have been taking place since the late 1980s.

Graduate students may take advantage of MTU's cooperative agreements with Sonora and a similar agreement with other universities in Europe and Australia. Students may also spend time at other international universities through the Office of International Programs.
