You should meet with your advisor about once a semester to make sure that you are on track for graduation. We also like to touch base with you to make sure you are happy with your progress and to assess your satisfaction with your experiences thus far.
Some of the ways that your advisor can help include:
- Meeting periodically to discuss your progress,
- Making sure you're on track for graduation and are fulfilling all program requirements,
- Helping you choose classes for future semesters,
- Communicating University policy and procedures,
- Making referrals if needed, and
- Discussing career options
