MINORS

The purpose of a minor is to give recognition to the student that has taken a concentration of classes in a specific area.  The minor is noted on diplomas and official transcripts and is a good way to demonstrate your interests and set yourself apart from other students when it comes time to find a job.

There are three minors offered by the Chemical Engineering Department and all three fit in well with the chemical engineering curriculum.  These minors are in:

But you do not have to limit yourself to just these minors.  You can take any of the minors offered by the different departments on campus.  Keep in mind that all minors will take some planning, and you should also be familiar with the requirements for getting a minor.

Many of your classes for a minor may be double counted with your major degree requirements.  The only exception to this is that at least 6 credits of upper level classes (3000 level or above) cannot double count, except as free electives.  The B.S. in chemical engineering already requires that you take 3 credits of free electives.  So, depending on the minor you choose and how well you plan, you could get a minor with only taking 3 additional credits.  For more information on double counting classes for a minor, contact your academic advisor.

If you are considering getting a minor, take a look at all of the minors that are offered and let your interests guide you in your decision.  A complete listing can be found in the Minors Section of the Undergraduate Catalog.
