The Goal...

The Carbon Technology Center has been established to develop fundamental and applied carbon materials technology. Consistent with the strengths of MTU, emphasis is placed on materials characterization and end use applications.  The role of the CTC in technology development is to incubate ideas, progressing them to the point where they either become self-sustaining or are abandoned.  This partnership between industry and academia has resulted in a world-class carbon research center.  Consistent with the manner in which the CTC is funded, projects conducted are selected by and performed under the direction of the CTC members/key resources.

The Approach...

To achieve success within the Carbon Technology Center, the approach is to focus on the projects that are consistent with MTU's research strengths.  These projects will also encourage interdisciplinary research, leading to meaningful partnerships both on and off campus, and keep the MTU faculty on the cutting edge of carbon technology.

Training World-Class Engineers...

Progress has been made in training students in carbon technology. Undergraduate and graduate students in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Materials and Metallurgy have been involved in many CTC projects.
