CM4861 AICHE Design Contest

Instructions for the AICHE Design Problem:

  1. The problem must be completed in one month. Late reports will receive a grade penalty based on how late it is.
  2. You cannot consult with other students or faculty on your solution - it must be done entirely on your own.
  3. In the Tuesday and Thursday AM lab sections it is not possible to "opt out" of the design contest in order to receive additonal assistance. This might not be true in other lab sections.
  4. Follow the report outline provided in the design problem write-up. This format is different from the format used in lab previously.
  5. The AICHE Design problem is reviewed by a committee that selects the best reports almost entirely on technical content - not based on report format, tables, figures, etc. No technical errors, improper assumptions, etc. are tolerted by the committee.
  6. D. A. Crowl will grade all of the design reports in the Thursday AM lab. This grading is done using the standard method, which includes technical content, organization, clarity, effective use of tables and figures, etc.
  7. In addition to the AICHE design awards, there are several safety awards presented. These are for either the best application of safety in the design problem or for the best application of inherently safer design practices.
  8. MTU is only allowed to submit two reports to AICHE. The Design faculty will make the selections. You need to be an AICHE member in order for us to submit your report.
