Homework 5 2009

CM4650 Polymer Rheology

Due:  Wednesday, March 25, 2008 in class
Due Date extended to Friday March 27 3pm in my mailbox.

    1.  (5 points)  6.1 (Question about zero shear viscosity varying with molecular weight)
    2.  (5 points)  6.6 (Which polymer has higher MW?)
    3.  (5 points)  When an inert filler is added to a linear polymer, how does the viscosity curve (viscosity versus shear rate) change?  Explain with words and with a sketch.
    4.  (5 points)  For a linear polymer of high molecular weight, what does G'(omega) look like?  Be sure to label the axes of your sketch.
    5.  (20 points) 7.20  (Predict a newly defined material function for PL GNF)
    6.  (30 points) 7.29 (unidirectional axial annular flow of a PL GNF)  Note that there are four parts to this question.
    7.  (30 points) 7.30 (tangential annular flow of a PL GNF)  Note that there are three parts to this question:  1)  calculate velcity and pressure profiles; 2) Calculate the torque required; 3) Plot the velocity field.
