Homework 4 2009

CM4650 Polymer Rheology

Due  Wednesday March 04, 2009 in class

Note:  I will be out of town Monday March 2 (no class) and Tuesday March 3.

1.  (20 points)  Problem 5.6
2.  (20 points)  Problem 5.14
3.  (20 points)  Problem 5.16.  Hint:  use continuity equation for incompressible fluids and also use the definition of the magnitude of the gamma-dot tensor.
4.  (20 points)  Plot G'(omega) and G"(omega) from equation 8.139 on a log-log plot for lambda=1 s and g=2 x 10^4 Pa.  You may use the range of omega from 10^-2 rad/s to 10^2 rad/s.  Choose your omegas to be evenly spaced on a log scale.
5.  (20 points) If the shear rate gamma-dot_21(t')=A sin wt', calculate the strain gamma_21(0,t).  Plot the shear-rate(t) and strain(t) on the same axes.
