CM4650 Polymer Rheology

    Due:  Wednesday, 15 April 2009 in class.

    1.  (20 points) 8.2 (discuss parameters of Maxwell model)
    2.  (20 points) 8.10 (calculate viscosity prediction for GLVE, Maxwell model, GMM;)  NOTE:  carry out integrations when possible.
    3.  (20 points) For the "first simple memory model" we discussed in lecture, calculate the material functions for cessation of steady shearing.
    4.  (20 points) For the Maxwell model, calculate the material functions for cessation of steady shearing.
    5.  (20 points) For the generalized linear viscoelastic model, calculate the material functions for cessation of steady shearing.
    6.  (20 points) Plot G'(omega) and G"(omega) for Einaga's polystyrene data.  Note that these data have been fitted to the GMM in the figure in lecture 30.  What is the viscosity of this polystyrene?
    7.  (20 points)  When is the generalized linear viscoelastic model useful?  When is the power-law generalized newtonian model useful?
