Board Meeting
Friends of the Van Pelt Library
February 14, 2002
Present: Faith Morrison, Peck Cho, Karen Hubbard, Terry Reynolds, George Love, June Hawthorne, Dee Vincent, Kim Hoagland, Amy Hughes
Absent: Udaya Kalluri, Gail Mroz, Phyllis Johnson, Dana Richter, Paul Munsterman
Dee Vincent called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm; action items are in bold.
The minutes of the January 17, 2001 meeting were reviewed and approved. Faith noted that Gail Mroz’ name was misspelled.
The treasurer's report dated Feb 6, 2001 was reviewed. Terry told us that the Tech Fund had recorded a donation incorrectly to the FVPL account. They reversed that error, so that is why we have less in our Tech Fund account than we did last month.
Theresa Spence and Pauline Moore gave us a presentation on the progress of the design for the new CILIT building project. They traveled to the University of Minnesota in Duluth and toured the library there and met with the SmithGroup architects. The architects then came up to Tech and there were 2 days of meetings. They passed out a handout with Concept Alternatives A through D. We discussed the project. Faith Morrison expressed concern about the classroom design. She was told to talk to Max Seel about that issue.
Kim Hoagland announced that two travel grants had been awarded for $600 each. They went to researchers in Chicago and Sweden. The committee is Kim, Eric Nordberg, and Larry Lankton.
The board discussed the need for a newsletter. Faith Morrison will draft, but we need up-to-date membership information. Due to the lack of a membership secretary, no one has been updating this. It needs to be updated in time for the sale. Faith said she did not have time to do it. Reynolds will request the needed info from the Tech Fund on Friends accounts. Dee will ask Johnson to request the needed info (donor names, amounts, addresses) from library accounts. The dates we are interested in is donations after April 5, 2001.
The architects for the new CILIT will be on campus on March 12, 13, 14. Anyone interested in meeting with them as a friends representative should contact Dee.
The newsletter issue was not resolved.
The meeting adjourned after 5 pm. The next meeting will be March 14, 2002, 4-5:00pm in room 309 of the J. Robert Van Pelt Library.
