Annual Membership Meeting

Friends of the Van Pelt Library

Thursday, October 20, 2005

This meeting was held in the MTU Archives in the Van Pelt Library from 4:30 – 5:04 pm.

Present: Gail Mroz, Don Durfee, Phyllis Johnson, Mary Marchaterre, Amy Hughes, Terry Reynolds, Patrick Quimby, Brian Geiger, Dick Rupley

Don Durfee addressed the audience and ran the short business meeting:

The board members present introduced themselves.  Don expressed the boards’ thanks to Tau Beta, SIS, and the recycling group for their help with the book sale, and to Amy Hughes for compiling the fall FVPL newsletter.

 Don noted our fundraising highlights:

Fund raisers last year included our Annual Used Book Sale, the Book Cart sales, and Econo Food receipts.  The FVPL purchased 6 laptops for the library and provided funding for several travel grants.

 Elections:

Five board members terms are up this year:  Don Durfee, Terry Reynolds, Patrick Quimby, Brian Geiger, and Amy Hughes.

There were no nominations from the floor.  All were in favor of these nominations to be elected to the board, except that Dick Rupley and Terry Reynolds were “opposed” to Terry Reynolds.

A slate of officers was nominated to serve for the coming year:

Chair                 Dee Vincent                            Vice Chair        Don Durfee

Treasurer          Terry Reynolds                        Secretary          Amy Hughes

All were in favor of these nominations.

Terry Reynolds reported that the FVPL has started using the downstairs storage area.  Some folks from Mass City donated 14 boxes of books which are in the new storage area.  On Thursday, October 27, 2005, at about 6:45 pm, the Friends of the Portage Lake Library will be coming to the Van Pelt Library loading dock to donate boxes of books to the FVPL.  Terry Reynolds requested help with moving these donations to our storage area.

Gail Mroz reported on the decrease we have seen in the number of library donors.  The Tech Fund used to do telemarketing for the library, but has not now for a few years.  We discussed some options which could be pursued to reach out to donors who have given to the library in the past.

The meeting adjourned at 5:04 pm.   Submitted by Amy Hughes, October 21, 2005.
