Dee Vincent members
present and introduced herself and board members present. Vincent
gave thanks to Tau Beta Pi and SIS for being instrumental in helping us
with our book sale.
Vincent reported that the most current event we have funded is the
purchasing of 4 Upper Peninsula inspired art pieces. We also fund
research travel archival grant programs, the rental of the Popular
Collection, the paperback collection and the on demand acquisitions
initiative. Money from our collection of Econo slips goes toward
computer equipment. Thanks to Friends members and supporters, we
could not have done it without you.
Fund raisers last year included our Annual Used Book Sale which netted
around $2000, the Book Cart brought in around $650 and Econo Food
receipts netted $276. We also provide hot chocolate and cookies
at Winter Carnival and sell used books, blankets and note cards and
continue to sell note cards and blankets.
Vincent conducted Board and officer elections. Board members who
terms are up this year are – Mark Griep, George Love, Dana Richter,
Eloise Haller, and Dick Rupley - who have agreed to stand for
re-election. Patricia Van Pelt has been nominated to fill a
vacancy on the board. There were no nominations from the
floor. All those nominated were elected.
The slate of officer candidates was:
Secretary Amy Hughes
Treasurer Terry Reynolds
Newsletter Faith Morrison
Vice Chair Don Durfee
Chair Dee Vincent
All were elected; there was one vote against the treasurer (by the
treasurer!).
The business meeting was adjourned and Vincent introduced the speaker
for the meeting, Art Weaver, retired Mechanical Engineering Professor,
who presented a slide show on local birds. He has studied birds
of the Keweenaw and their habitats for the past 4 decades. All
enjoyed Weaver's talk and the companionship and refreshments.
