Fine-tuning Flammability Apparatus
Dr.
Chad Mashuga, graduated from Michigan Tech in 1994 with a baccalaureate
in chemical engineering. He completed his work for a PhD in 1999.
For his doctoral project, Dr. Mashuga constructed a flammability
apparatus that provides data necessary to characterize the flammability
of chemicals.. It is a faster and more automated means of evaluating
flammability than alternative methods. Dr. Dan Crowl says "it
is a very unique piece of equipment." The apparatus was 5
years in the making and was supported by several industries including
BASF Corp. and Dow Chemical Corp.
Chad
is now a research engineer at BASF and he is also an adjunct faculty
at Wayne State University Department of Chemical Engineering.
